Hello, this is Limdos.
Today, I’d like to share my thoughts on the youth film Start-Up, a story that carries the warm message that “it’s okay to start life late.

Nowadays, the period of wandering during the late teens and early twenties feels longer and more complicated than before.
Start-Up gently tells those living through that phase, “It’s okay. This is just the time you’re in right now.”
The restless youth – Taekil and Sangpil
On the surface they talk tough, rebel loudly, and act rough, but inside they’re anxious and lost.
At the center of this film are Taekil and Sangpil.
The main character, Taekil (Park Jung-min), drops out of high school and spends his days clashing with his mother (Yeom Jung-ah), firing off his trademark “daily spike of rebellion.”

School is boring, studying feels pointless, and though he has no real dream, he’s surrounded by endless nagging.
His best friend, Sangpil (Jung Hae-in), chooses to make money quickly, getting involved in dangerous, gang-like part-time work.
One day, Taekil suddenly leaves home, determined to “just run away from life.”
That’s when he stumbles upon Jangpoong Chinese Restaurant—
and meets Geo-seok hyung (Ma Dong-seok).
Meeting a real adult – “Life starts with a meal.”
Wearing a pink apron and sporting a bob haircut, yet carrying eyes as sharp as steel, the head chef is no ordinary man.
Geo-seok hyung doesn’t say much, but his presence is overwhelming.
Ma Dong-seok’s charisma perfectly blends playful humor with weighty life lessons.
Through hard kitchen work—washing dishes, delivering food—Taekil slowly begins to realize that running away is not the answer, and that maybe life has to be faced head-on.
Meanwhile, Sangpil is dragged deeper into the dark world he chose.
Taekil desperately wants to help his friend, but reality is never as easy as he wishes.

Mom was always on my side…
Yeom Jung-ah, playing Taekil’s mother, embodies the true essence of a “real mom.”
Her words can be sharp, sometimes even angry, but beneath that, her heart is filled with love and worry for her son.
“No matter what you do,
just make sure you eat.”
This single line captures the warmth of every mother, and it struck deeply.
The conversations between Taekil and his mother remind us of how often parents and children struggle to truly communicate—a familiar issue to many of us.

“Start-Up” eventually kicks in
Start-Up isn’t flashy, nor is it a typical coming-of-age cliché.
Instead, it resonates with a quiet but powerful sense of reality.
The theme of “wandering youth” may be familiar, but details like Geo-seok hyung’s presence and the meaning of sharing a simple meal give this film its unique emotional depth.
Especially moving is the final scene where Taekil returns home and simply says,
“Mom, I ate.”
It’s a line that leaves many viewers in tears, capturing the essence of reconciliation and growth.

Limdos’ Final Thoughts
Start-Up shows us that even without dramatic events, life keeps moving forward.
Life doesn’t always change with big resolutions—it begins with small choices, repeated until the engine finally starts.
For anyone who has ever wandered like Taekil, or for those still searching for direction, this movie offers a gentle yet certain comfort.
Limdos’ One-Liner Review
